Marriage and civil partnership

Generally getting married or entering into a civil partnership has limited impact on your pension arrangements. The main issue to consider is that you have provided sufficiently for your dependants in the event of your death or disablement. Or alternatively, you could be financially dependent on your spouse or civil partner.

Some pension arrangements provide additional spouses' and surviving civil partners' pensions in the event of the member's death.

If this applies to you or your spouse/civil partner, you should inform the employer or pension provider as soon as possible to ensure that the necessary insurance cover is put in place.
