State pensions

Additional benefits

In addition to your pension from the State, there may also be a Qualified Adult’s allowance and/or a Qualified Child’s allowance payable, if the conditions for their payment are met. The State also pays widow’s, widower’s or surviving civil partner's pensions, again subject to certain conditions being met.

There are a number of additional benefits payable to retired people. These include a living alone allowance for those who qualify, free travel, and a household package for people aged over 70 that includes help with electricity, gas and TV licence costs.

A number of conditions need to be met in order to receive these benefits and you will need to check these conditions at the time.
