Onset of serious illness or disability

The onset of a permanent illness or disability that prevents you from working would have serious financial consequences. Your dependants are relying on your pension arrangements and any attaching ill-health retirement or disability benefits that are available to support them. Or alternatively, you could be financially dependent on your spouse/civil partner or other relative.

The State provides a pension of €11,102 per year to those who qualify and who cannot work due to long term illness or disability.

You or your spouse/civil partner may also be entitled to ill-health retirement or disability benefits from private pension arrangements.

If you are not covered for these benefits, you should consider taking out an insurance policy of your own to provide some protection.
