Pensions Board To Provide Pensions Checklist At Career Guidance Conference

Friday 10 March 2006:The Pensions Board will attend the Institute of Career Guidance Counsellors Annual Conference in Galway this weekend (March 9th – 11th) where they will be encouraging attendees to consider the topic of pensions when discussing employment options with students.

Delegates at the Conference will receive the Pensions Checklist as part of the Conference packs and the Pensions Board will have a pensions information stand at the event where career guidance counsellors can discuss the subject.

Discussing the upcoming event in Galway, Mary Hutch, Head of Information and Training, Pensions Board said: “Career guidance counsellors play a very important role in guiding students to find the career that suits them. The Pensions Board will be speaking to the counsellors at our stand this weekend about how they can give pension information to their students, particularly those who will go directly into the work force from second level school. One question that everybody should ask after an interview with a prospective employer is whether the company has a pension scheme in place or not, and this is an area that career counsellors could explore with their students”.

The Conference takes place in the Corrib Great Southern Hotel, Galway. The Institute of Guidance Counsellors was established in 1968, and is the professional body representing over 1,200 practitioners in second level schools, third level colleges, adult guidance services, private practice and in other settings.
