The Pensions Authority publishes statistics for defined benefit schemes

29 July 2022: Today, the Pensions Authority publishes a set of statistics for defined benefit (DB) schemes which have been compiled from an analysis of the most recent Annual Actuarial Data Returns (AADRs) received for relevant schemes by 31 March this year.

Some of the findings include:

The number of ‘continuing’ DB schemes subject to the funding standard was 526 as at 31 March, a decline of 6% since the previous year.
Total assets were valued at €73.7 bn at the date of schemes’ last AADR.
Funding standard liabilities totalled €65.0 bn including the funding standard reserve.
89% of continuing DB schemes satisfied the funding standard provided for in the Pensions Act, 1990, as amended.
